Why the ‘Sponge’ diaries?
This might be obvious to some of you, but honestly, it wasn’t to me when I started working in a brothel. A sponge is really the most important item a sex worker can have (after condoms and lube, of course!)
I never thought before SW what happens when your period comes. Maybe I assumed everyone was on the pill, maybe I assumed that everyone took a week’s holiday… maybe I thought that the girls were sent to a tent to quarantine. After all, this is the oldest profession, so who’s to say dealing with periods wasn’t medieval. But no, the answer uses a piece of modern technology — the sponge!
Acting like a tampon, feeling like.. well I don’t know you’ll have to ask my clients, but I imagine a nice tight soft vag, the sponge is the best friend of the sex worker — the reason we can work any and every day we need to.
Obviously, it’s not realistic that we just take a week off when we’re on our “menses” (trying to think of other period words without resorting to on the blob here!) so this blogs name is a tribute to my mate, the good ol’ common or kitchen sponge.
